Working together for a joyful and active old age

Working together for a joyful and active old age

The country was badly hit by the economic crisis, and average pensions are some of the lowest in the EU. Many Slovakian families lack the resources to support their older members. Another fundamental problem is that the state cannot afford to build new high-quality retirement homes and existing ones are often overcrowded and understaffed.

This is why SI Club Bratislava has been supporting two old people’s homes for the past couple of years.

Members understand what life is like for the seniors who live there and can empathise with them. They feel alone and forgotten, with only the occasional visit from friends or family members to brighten up their day. This is why, in addition to raising funds for the hospices, the club organises visits and social events which offer the opportunity to share personal experiences, family traditions, professional skills and hobbies. An important part of these visits are the informal discussions with residents where they can discuss their problems or voice their concerns. Refreshments and snacks, provided by the SI Club Bratislava members, are served. The programme also includes entertainment, cultural and artistic activities.
