The nearest well was a great distance away, and the time needed to reach it disrupted teaching and studying. The club therefore decided to equip the schools with water tanks.
The project was implemented with the financial support of SI Denmark. Teachers and students of the two beneficiary schools were trained in hygiene and the proper use of sanitation equipment. The water tanks will provide students with clean drinking water and help them avoid diseases. This will also motivate the children and improve their studying conditions and attendance – which are the club’s main objectives.
Dori is in the Sahel region which suffers from serious political instability. Work was interrupted due to security threats in the area but resumed in February 2016.
This project has been a great success: teaching and school attendance have improved and the school children now enjoy drinking clean water.
