Moroccan children are often forced to abandon school due to financial concerns or because malnourishment makes learning difficult. SI Club Agadir worked to increase school attendance in rural areas by setting up an on-site canteen. The club built the facility at a school in a rural part of Taroudant province. It opened in 2007 and caters for 80 students from the surrounding villages. It has been an extremely important addition to the school. Most children have to walk 2km to get to class and stay there the entire day, as they can’t return home for lunch.
SI Agadir has expanded its involvement, also distributing school supplies and clothes for children in the Tnin Tigouga region. School attendance has improved drastically since the construction of the canteen.
