Improving sanitary conditions in a burns ward

Improving sanitary conditions in a burns ward

More than 10,000 patients have received treatment in the ward since it was opened 20 years ago. After two decades of service, however, the building which housed the ward was in dire need of renovation. Basic sanitary and anti-epidemic conditions were no longer being met and facilities urgently needed improving.

The members of SI Club Lviv, with the support of the Soroptimist Unions of Luxembourg and Denmark, joined forces to raise the funds needed to renovate the building and ensure that it meets essential medical and sanitary standards.

Launched in 2011, this important project reaches 450 children and 400 women annually. It has already seen the renovation of five hospital rooms, a dressing room, two restrooms, a laundry room, and a children’s playroom. This means that doctors and medical staff have better working conditions, and that the children can recover faster. In fact, the duration of children’s hospitalisation has been shortened, and chances of recovery for children with extensive burns have been improved!
